Eastern Shore Day Trips: Cambridge, MD

Make this year's Delaware or Maryland vacation even more special by treating yourself to authentic Eastern Shore experiences. A side trip to Cambridge, MD, one of America's oldest towns, is a great place to start.

It's easy to see why named this quaint waterfront town among America's top 10. Located within a 90 minute drive from Bethany Beach, DE and about an hour from Ocean City and Annapolis, Cambridge makes a fun and interesting side trip.

According to the Cambridge Main St. website, the town is undergoing a renaissance as gallery and boutique owners, innkeepers and restaurateurs reclaim and revitalize once-vacant space. The historic downtown area that includes Poplar, Race and High streets is an excellent starting point for exploring by car and on foot. Choose from a variety of self-guided and professional tours.

Cambridge hosts special events for every season. Skipjack races, pirate parties, Second Saturday art strolls, flower shows, ghost walks, food and drink festivals, a Schooner Rendezvouz and holiday celebrations entertain visitors throughout the year.

Just a few blocks from downtown Cambridge lies Long Wharf Park, home to the Choptank River Lighthouse. This replica screwpile lighthouse is open daily May through October, and by appointment the rest of the year.
